Operations & Maintenance
Certified Electrician, Maintenance
Arecibo Observatory, PR
Job Description: Install, maintain, diagnose, repair, modify and test low, medium and high voltage electrical distribution systems, grounding, lightning protection, etc., according to NFPA/NEC70. Responsible for in-field preventative and emergency service of mission critical back-up systems – UPS.

Education:Associate degree from an accredited technical institution in an electrician program and 5 years of experience.

Qualifications: Knowledge of accepted practices, processes, materials, and tools for installation, repair and maintenance trades. Knowledge of Lightning Protection Systems per NFPA 780. Certified Electrician as per Puerto Rico College of Certified Electricians.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Install, service, repair, inspect and diagnose electrical systems and equipment
  • PMs on electrical equipment per documented procedures, manufacturer’s specifications, and NFPA/NEC standards
  • Thorough understanding of electrical distribution from power plant and main electrical sub-stations to end users
  • Must be capable of working in a maintenance environment
  • Troubleshoot a variety of electrical devices on voltages up to 13,200 volts
  • Responsible for electrical and emergency power systems
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Troubleshoot and repair motors, motor control centers, VFD's
  • Respond to electrical emergencies after hours on awkward locations and at Telescope suspended Platform 500 feet above ground
  • Provide technical support to the HVAC technicians

Professional Security Guard
Arecibo Observatory, PR
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years of age.

Job Description: Responsible for the safety and security of the facilities they protect. Act as a visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions; detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal acts at or near their assigned posts which may be a threat to the property, clients, guests or employees at the site.

Qualifications:
  • Possess effective written and oral communication (English and Spanish) and interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels of personnel and guests in a professional and effective manner
  • Use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines
  • Frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting
  • Read and understand all operating procedures and instructions
  • Hold and maintain a valid Guard License, as required in Puerto Rico
  • Maintain current active status of all required License(s); carry the license(s) at all times while on duty
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and a postoffer/pre-employment drug/alcohol test
  • Intermediate computer skills to utilize innovative, wireless technology at client specific sites.
  • Remain flexible to ever changing environments
  • Adapt well to different situations
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standard
  • Must be able to handle pressure of working with the guests in high volumes (constantly to occasionally depending on assigmnent)
Duties and Responsibilites:
  • Patrol premises randomly and regularly, including buildings and perimeter
  • Monitor alarm systems, smoke detectors and video cameras
  • Support the Science and Visiting Center
  • Patrol parking areas to prevent vehicle damage and vehicle or property thefts
  • Direct drivers to parking areas or parking spaces, using hand signals or signal lights as necessary
  • Assist in emergency events, ensuring correct procedures are followed
  • Keep assorted records and produce required reports
  • Provide escort services to telescope operators, students, and visitors
  • Perform other duties as required

Purchasing and Procurement Specialist
Arecibo Observatory, PR
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience.

Qualifications:
  • Be fully conversant in purchasing and procurement procedures and practices
  • Be fluent in English and Spanish in both the written and spoken word
  • Have strong computer skills using Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform tasks in applying knowledge of current and developing technologies to innovate, develop and apply solutions to a wide range of purchasing and procurement issues
  • Purchase parts and materials using Purchase Orders and Blanket Purchasing Agreement to meet AO needs
  • Create requests for quotes, source developments, bid analysis awards and other administrative duties
  • Perform cost to price analysis
  • Reconcile Purchase Orders discrepancies with applicable vendors and issue modifications when required
  • Maintain and track rentals within an automated database to ensure that items are returned and received in a timely manner
  • Validate and verify the customer’s requirements while checking all available assets before processing through the procurement process
  • Perform other duties as assigned
